El Ministerio de Recursos Naturales y Medio Ambiente de la Guyana, Geología y Minas de la Comisión (GGMC) continuará haciendo cumplir las regulaciones mineras para reducir la minería ilegal y otras actividades ilícitas en el sector.

Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GGMC, Major General (rtd), Joseph Singh and other senior officers of the Government recently met with a high level delegation from the State of Roraima, Brazil following the detention of scores of illegal Brazilian miners and part of the recently launched 'Operation El Dorado' to combat widespread illegal mining.Ministro de Recursos Naturales y Medio Ambiente, Robert Persaud, presidente de la Junta de Directores de GGMC, el general de división (IDT), José Singh y otros altos funcionarios del Gobierno se reunió recientemente con una delegación de alto nivel del Estado de Roraima, después de Brasil la detención de decenas de mineros brasileños ilegales y parte de la recientemente lanzada la "Operación El Dorado" para combatir la minería ilegal generalizada. Minister Persaud pointed out that the operation is intended to target illegal mining and other unregulated mining activities. He advised the meeting that a large number of Brazilians was caught engaging in illegal mining activities. In order to adequately regulate the sector, the Government of Guyana during April 10-15, 2012, embarked on a campaign “Operation El Dorado” to stop illegal mining and related activities in the Puruni area, Region 7.Con el fin de regular adecuadamente el sector, el Gobierno de Guyana durante el 10 al 15 abril, 2012, se embarcó en una campaña de la "Operación El Dorado" para detener la minería ilegal y las actividades relacionadas en el área de Puruni, la Región 7. Nota del editor del blog: Al referenciarse a la República Cooperativa de Guyana se deben de tener en cuenta los 159.500Km2, de territorios ubicados al oeste del río Esequibo conocidos con el nombre de Guayana Esequiba o Zona en Reclamación sujetos al Acuerdo de Ginebra del 17 de febrero de 1966.

Territorios estos sobre los cuales el gobierno Venezolano en representación de la Nación venezolana se reservo sus derechos sobre los territorios de la Guayana Esequiba en su nota del 26 de mayo de 1966 al reconocerse al nuevo Estado de Guyana .
“...por lo tanto, Venezuela reconoce como territorio del nuevo Estado, el que se sitúa al este de la margen derecha del río Esequibo y reitera ante la comunidad internacional, que se reserva expresamente sus derechos de soberanía territorial sobre la zona que se encuentra en la margen izquierda del precitado río; en consecuencia, el territorio de la Guayana Esequiba sobre el cual Venezuela se reserva expresamente sus derechos soberanos, limita al Este con el nuevo Estado de Guyana, a través de la línea del río Esequibo, tomando éste desde su nacimiento hasta su desembocadura en el Océano Atlántico...”
